1. IELTS Speaking topic Games Part 1

1.1 What games are popular in your country?

Sample 1:

Well, there are too many to list. However, if I had to pick the most typical one, it would be “hide and seek”. I have no clue when it was originally created, but I firmly believe that it is one of the most famous games in Vietnam. Even though it is a traditional game, most children nowadays still play it by any chance. The rule is very simple. One player closes his or her eyes for a short period of time while others find a place to hide. The seekers then open their eyes and try to find their friends.

All you have to do is use your fingers to quickly cut the fruit that appears on your screen.

I believe difficulty level is the main factor that makes this game appeal to players. They seek a sense of satisfaction after winning a competitive match, which explains why the game is highly addictive.

1.3 How do people learn to play games in your country?

I think observation is the best way to learn how to do something new. For example, traditional games such as “cat and mouse” do not require too many rules. Children can effortlessly learn it from their friends after joining a few rounds.

Certainly yes. There are a lot of games that are harmless fun, which means that they are not onlyamusing but also educational. For example, puzzle games are absolutely beneficial for the brain development of children, especially at an early age. This is because these games train children with different complicated levels which require them to practice their problem-solving skills.

I’m with the idea that playing games plays a crucial role in human life. Since people are becoming busier, they are constantly put under pressure. People can be transported into a virtual world, which temporarily helps them to leave all their daily affairs behind.

Needless to say, there could be several health problems resulting from game addiction such as obesity, and impaired vision.

2. IELTS Speaking topic Games Part 2

Describe a game that you used to play in your childhood.

You should say about:

• What the game is;

• Why you like playing it;

• Who you play it with;

• And explain how it is played.

Sample: 

There are many games that imprint in my mind whenever talking about my younger days. However, if I had to choose one to talk about, it would be “Tug of War”.

There were various reasons why I loved taking part in this game. Firstly, I was always interested in outdoor activities, and this game requires a great amount of strength and movement, which fits me perfectly. In addition, since I had a big neighborhood with a lot of kids around my age, “Tug of war” seemed like the only game that could include all of us.

And for sure, I played the game with the kids in my neighborhood. We had a spot, an empty yard at the back of my house. As usual, right after lunchtime, we all gathered at the playground to play several traditional folk games, but “Tug of war” was still the most preferred option.

The rule is very simple. Initially, we play “rock paper scissors” to divide the group into two teams. Each team lines up along a bamboo rope, facing the other one. There is a red flag that is tied in the middle of the rope. After the hand signal is given by the referee, players will pull as hard as possible to make the red flag move back to their side. The team that is able to tug the red flag over the line will be the winner. However, the interesting thing about this game is the cheers and applause from the audience. It creates such a dynamic and fun environment. People often think this game is all about strength, but it’s actually not. People also need to have a smart strategy to win the game. To be specific, using your leg muscles is better than your arms. Moreover, mutual understanding among team members is very important. Pulling at the same time is much more effective. Also, lower positions can help you to maintain balance better.

Although I don’t play it anymore due to my hectic lifestyle, I still find it interesting to cheer people playing this game, especially at national festivals. Hopefully, this traditional game will always be played by children
