5. Mẫu câu trả lời ielts Speaking Hobbies
5.1 Mẫu trả lời IELTS Speaking Hobbies Part 1
- Do you have a hobby?
Well yeah, but my hobby is not exactly the most common one. I enjoy collecting coins and notes from different countries in different eras. The reason why I am so interested in this is because I believe coins can provide a lot of information about a country's culture and history, which is extremely exciting to know about.
common: phổ thông
coins: đồng xu
notes: tiền giấy
eras: thời đại
2. What equipment do you need for it?
Well I don't really need much. I only need a sturdy book which can be used to keep the coins and notes in a good condition. To be more specific, it protects them from humidity in the air and accidental water spillage.
sturdy: chắc chắn
humidity: độ ẩm
water spillage: sự đổ nước
3. Do you think hobbies should be shared with other people?
I think it depends on the nature of the hobby. There are hobbies which require the participation of many people such as dancing or playing team sports. On the other hand, there are hobbies which would be better to be enjoyed alone, like reading or playing an instrument.
participation: sự tham gia
team sports: các môn thể thao đồng đội
4. What hobbies are popular in your country?
It depends a lot on the age group in my opinion. To be more specific, young people tend to enjoy energetic activities such as playing sports or going to the clubs since they often look for fun. In contrast, older people prefer serenity so they often opt for pastimes like reading or gardening.
age group: nhóm tuổi
energetic: nhiều năng lượng
serenity: sự thanh thản
pastimes: trò giải trí
5. In your opinion, is it important to have a hobby?
Yes definitely. Since people are becoming busier, they are constantly put under pressure. Therefore, it is necessary for people to be interested in something, so they can engage in activities that are not related to their daily working or studying routine. I believe this is a great way to relieve stress and refresh their life.
put under pressure: đặt dưới áp lực cuộc sống
relieve stress: giải toả áp lực
daily working or studying routine: lịch trình làm việc và học tập hàng ngày
5.2 Mẫu trả lời IELTS Speaking Hobbies Part 2
Discuss your preferred pastime. You should say:
What exactly is it, exactly?
Have you been doing this for a long time?
What kind of company do you have when you’re doing it?
Also, why is this significant to you?
Sample 1: Swimming
I have done many things for recreational purposes. However, if I had to choose one to talk about, it would be swimming.
I got a chance to learn how to swim when I was a little boy. My mother used to take me to the swimming pool near my home every weekend. Then she decided to sign me up for a swimming class. I got trained by a personal instructor, and after 2 weeks, I was able to swim at a moderate pace.
Actually, I pretty much enjoy swimming by myself rather than having a few friends with me. It doesn’t mean that I’m an introvert, it’s simply because that’s the only time I can be on my own.
There are various reasons why this hobby plays a crucial role in my life. Firstly, I am the kind of person who really takes pride in appearance, which means that I always make sure my body is in shape. Fortunately, according to some articles I’ve read, swimming can help to burn a great number of calories, which significantly reduces fat and builds muscles in my body.
In addition, since the weather in Ho Chi Minh city is boiling hot, I can’t survive without soaking my body in the water once a week. The feeling of immersing myself in the cool water allows me to unwind and relieve all the stress. It’s such a great way to take care of my mental health.
Moreover, being office staff, I sit in front of the screen for straight 8 hours a day. Therefore, swimming is a way to prevent me from having a sedentary lifestyle. Needless to say, there are so many benefits this hobby can bring to my health such as increasing resistance to illness, speeding up my metabolism, as well as improving my state of health.
Those advantages are the reasons why I maintain this pastime up to now. And I feel like it has become an indispensable part of my life.
recreational purposes: mục đích giải trí
personal instructor: người hướng dẫn cá nhân
at a moderate pace: ở một tốc độ vừa phải
introvert: người hướng nội
plays a crucial role: đóng vai trò quan trọng
takes pride in appearance: quan tâm đến ngoại hình
body is in shape: thân hình cân đối
reduces fat: giảm mỡ
builds muscles: xây dựng cơ bắp
unwind and relieve all the stress: giải tỏa mọi căng thẳng
mental health: sức khỏe tinh thần
sedentary lifestyle: lối sống thụ động
increasing resistance to illness: tăng cường khả năng chống lại bệnh
speeding up my metabolism: thúc đẩy quá trình trao đổi chất
improving my state of health: cải thiện thể trạng sức khoẻ
indispensable part: phần không thể thiếu
Sample 2: Music
Well, I have a lot of hobbies to mention, but if I had to pick one, it would be music. I realized that I had a great passion for music when I was still a little kid.
My mom saw my talent for quickly remembering the rhythm of every song that I heard. Therefore, she sent me to a musical academy. From there, I got a chance to learn how to play guitar and other instruments such as piano and violin. However, my teacher told me that I should switch to studying vocal music since he accidentally heard my singing voice. Since then, I started to develop my innate potential.
Actually, I have joined many music clubs, and I had my own band. My friends and I usually performed in acoustic bars on the weekend. To be honest, we couldn’t rely on it for a living, we absolutely did it for the purpose of fulfillment.
There are a variety of reasons why music is an indispensable part of my life. Firstly, it’s the time when I can live “the real me”. Normally, I find it hard to display my feelings or give my opinions, and music is the only thing that can help me to express and arouse my emotions in a way that words alone cannot.
Moreover, music is important to me just simply because it’s a form of enjoyment. An upbeat song can lift my mood while a slow ballad can heal my soul from depression. I also find it delightful to play music with a group of friends. It literally has no language or age barriers. I’m in love with how amazing music can connect people regardless of their backgrounds.
had a great passion for: có niềm đam mê lớn cho điều gì
rhythm: giai điệu
musical academy: học viên âm nhạc
instruments: nhạc cụ
vocal music: thanh nhạc
innate potential: tiềm năng bẩm sinh
fulfillment: sự thoả mãn
indispensable: không thể thiếu
display my feelings: bày tỏ cảm xúc
express and arouse my emotions: thể hiện và khơi gợi cảm xúc
lift my mood: vực dậy tâm trạng
heal my soul: chữa lành tâm hồn
delightful: vui sướng
language or age barriers: rào cản về ngôn ngữ và độ tuổi
Sample 3: Traveling
It is extremely hard to pick one hobby to talk about since I have tons. However, the first thing that pops up in my mind is traveling.
I guess I inherited this trait from my mom, who is a passionate traveler. Since I was a young kid, I was in many regions around the country. My mother was a teacher, and annually her school organized a trip for all the teachers and staff. Therefore, I’ve been to different famous tourist attractions so far, which sparks my interest in travel.
Unlike most people, I’m keen on traveling with both family and friends. I believe each one has its own values. My family still maintains the habit of having at least 3 vacations a year. Our favorite spot is Da Lat city, a place known for its mild weather and hospitable people. Meanwhile, I have a group of friends who share the same interest in going off the beaten track. We find it exciting to immerse ourselves in pure nature rather than being in crowded places.
There are numerous reasons why travel is a vital part of my life. Firstly, I have a pretty hectic schedule which constantly puts me under pressure, so traveling is an occasion that allows me to unwind and alleviate all the stress and burdens in my life. I’m sure that I can’t produce effective work performance without taking a break and refreshing my mind.
In addition, I always think that life is too short and there are so many things in the world to explore. It would be a waste if we don’t go out and find out how beautiful the world is. “The more you go, the more you know” is my life maxim. The feeling of trying a new local speciality or learning about a new culture or custom makes me so delightful. I literally broaden my horizons after every trip or even expand my social circle.
Even though I’m quite busy now and unable to take trips as often as I used to, I still try to travel by any chance. There are still a lot of places I have never been to, so I don’t think I’m going to quit this pastime.
pops up in my mind: xuất hiện trong đầu
inherited: thừa hưởng
tourist attractions: địa điểm du lịch
sparks my interest: khơi gơi niềm hứng thú
mild weather: thời tiết dễ chịu
going off the beaten track: đi du lịch những nơi ít người biết
vital: quan trọng
hectic schedule: thời gian biểu bận rộn
unwind and alleviate all the stress: giải toả mọi căng thẳng
work performance: hiệu suất làm việc
refreshing my mind: làm tươi mới đầu óc
The more you go, the more you know: đi một ngày đàng, học một sàng khôn
life maxim: châm ngôn sống
local speciality: đặc sản vùng miền
broaden my horizons: mở mang tầm mắt, kiến thức
expand my social circle: mở rộng mối các mối quan hệ
5.3 Mẫu trả lời IELTS Speaking Hobbies Part 3
Do you believe that men and women have distinct hobbies?
Sure, I’m with that idea. Men and women have pretty much different preferences. Males tend to prefer extreme sports and demanding activities such as racing or scuba diving while females seem to be keen on sedentary and less intensive activities such as making handicrafts or cooking.
Physical condition also contributes to this difference. For example, rock climbing or wrestling may be too daunting for most women. However, there are still some exceptions. It could be a man who loves to cook or a woman who likes to become a bodybuilder
preferences: sở thích
extreme sports: thể thao cảm giác mạnh
demanding activities: các hoạt động mạnh, khó khăn
sedentary: nhàn hạ, thụ động
handicrafts: đồ thủ công
Physical condition: điều kiện thể chất
rock climbing: leo núi đá
bodybuilder: vận động viên thể hình
2. Why do some people become enamored with their hobbies?
Well, I think every one of us is passionate about one thing. And at a higher level, when people demonstrate effort, ambition, and determination in practicing their hobby, they may indulge in it.
Another reason is that many hobbies now become competitions. As a result, some people may find it intriguing, so they seek a sense of satisfaction when winning a game over other people. At this point, a pastime turns into a desire to overcome their own limits.
is passionate about: đam mê một cái gì đó
effort: sự cố gắng
ambition: hoài bão
determination: sự quyết tâm
indulge: say mê, đắm chìm
intriguing: thú vị, hấp dẫn
sense of satisfaction: cảm giác thỏa mãn
overcome their own limits: vượt qua giới hạn của họ
3. Do you believe that hobbies that keep you fit are preferable to hobbies that you can do while sitting?
No, I don’t buy that idea. Every pastime has its own values, and people can experience them as a form of enjoyment in different ways. Therefore, it is absurd to compare one to another. For example, even though reading books doesn’t involve too many movements, lots of people find it intriguing. They claim that reading book helps them to live not only their own life but also the lives of other people, which is such a great experience. Or people who are into music may argue that they prefer it since it can help to heal the pains in their souls and make their life more meaningful.
values: giá trị
absurd: nực cười, ngớ ngẩn
intriguing: thú vị, hấp dẫn
heal the pains in their souls: chữa lành vết thương trong tâm hồn
meaningful: có ý nghĩa
